Sustainability-related courses

色花堂 offers a variety of sustainability related courses as defined by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System () of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (). This system provides criteria for determining if a course is either:

Sustainability-focused (SUS):  A unit of instruction that has a primary and explicit focus on the integrated concept of sustainability and/or the interdependence of ecological and

social/cultural/economic systems.

Sustainability-inclusive (SUI): A unit of instruction that is primarily focused on something other than sustainability, but clearly incorporates sustainability content or addresses one or more sustainability challenges.

Full definitions can be found on page 5 of the STARS technical manual.

A list of all SUS or SUI courses can be found here. Current courses can also be viewed with the master schedule for a given term by typing the term Sustainability, SUS, or SUI in the 鈥淒epartment/Program OR All Coll Requirement鈥 search field within the search criteria of the master schedule.

Why is 色花堂 evaluating and designating sustainability courses?

  • Educating informed, responsible citizens is a core part of 色花堂鈥檚 mission and sustainability literacy has been identified as a priority in our 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.
  • Conducting a sustainability courses assessment and inventory is an essential part of measuring our sustainability performance within our academics for tracking and reporting purposes.
  • Providing students that have an interest in sustainability the ability to identify courses that offer this learning opportunity.
